Firefly Aerospace develops launch vehicles, lunar landers and orbital spacecraft for government, commercial and civil space missions. The company’s Alpha rocket supports dedicated, rideshare and responsive launch missions to low Earth orbit. Firefly also demonstrated the ability to place a satellite into orbit on approximately 24 hours’ notice through the U.S. Space Force VICTUS NOX mission. That capability reflects a growing requirement for launch systems that can move from notification through payload integration and flight within a compressed operating window.

Alpha and Eclipse are supported by launch infrastructure at multiple U.S. ranges, including Vandenberg Space Force Base, the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport at Wallops Island and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. Beyond launch, Firefly’s Blue Ghost lunar landers are designed to carry scientific instruments, technology demonstrations and commercial payloads to the Moon. Blue Ghost Mission 1 completed a successful lunar landing in March 2025 and supported payload operations on the surface. The mission required the company to manage spacecraft integration, transit, lunar orbit insertion, descent, landing, surface power, thermal control, communications and mission operations within the same program.

Future Blue Ghost missions are being developed for destinations including the lunar far side and south polar region. These missions pair the lander with Firefly’s Elytra orbital vehicles, allowing payloads to be transported, deployed and supported in lunar orbit as well as on the surface. The combined architecture is also intended to provide communications relay services for missions operating where direct contact with Earth is limited. The Elytra spacecraft family extends Firefly’s work into in-space maneuvering, payload hosting, orbital transfer, imaging and space-domain awareness. Different Elytra configurations are being developed for missions from low Earth orbit through cislunar space, including payload deployment, rendezvous and proximity operations, long-haul communications and persistent orbital services.

Firefly also applies common spacecraft, propulsion and flight-software technologies across its launch, lunar and orbital programs. This allows engineering developed for one platform to support related missions, while vertically integrated manufacturing and testing help the company coordinate vehicle development across launch systems and spacecraft.

Formed in 2017 and headquartered in Leander, Texas, Firefly maintains spacecraft, launch-vehicle production and test operations across central Texas.
